These are a misleading killer.. that is for sure.
Push ups are a wonderful foundation exercise, because it can be done with just body weight and there are many progressions and regressions.
In this particular model, you use dumbbells to keep your hands on rather than the ground so you can simulate going deeper than a regular push will allow you.
Some keys to focus on:
- Make sure the glutes are tight/contracted to maintain posture
- The placement of the hands will help determine muscle recruitment – wider hands will lead to more Pec Major recruitment (Chest focus)
- Keeping the hands more narrow will recruit more Triceps
- Keeping the feet together will add more instability – while keeping the feet wider will allow for a great base of support
