This video is very similar to the regular bench press with one major difference:
The resistance band running from side to side under the bench.
Although it may not seem like it makes a big difference, I call this bad boy the plateau breaker. Adding the resistance band to the lift adds an element of variable resistance, which means the weight gets heavier the higher you lift the bar. A person can also stimulate this effect by using chains in their exercises!
When trying this exercise, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SPOT. You reach failure with very little warning.
Some quick set-up tips:
- Place on handle on bar where weight/clips go
- Run band under the bench and attach to the other side – same place
- Use hand to push band down (away from bench underneath) to balance out resistance on each side
